Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Over 4000 golfers are expected to grace this year’s KCB East Africa Golf Tour, the organisers announced on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

A total of 3000 will compete in the prestigious series while 1000 juniors and 500 ladies will feature in the clinics to be staged across the various venues.<\/p>\n

This will see the numbers more than triple from last year’s entries where 1500 took part in the series while 800 juniors and ladies took part in the clinics.<\/p>\n

During the launch at Railways Golf Club, title sponsors KCB Bank revealed a Sh65 million package towards the second edition of the series, which tee off at Mombasa Golf Club this weekend.<\/p>\n

The 11-month 24-leg amateur series will traverse 20 counties in Kenya as well as have two stops in Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, and Uganda.<\/p>\n

The Kenyan legs include Mombasa, Eldoret, Kakamega, Nakuru, Limuru, Nyanza, Machakos, Thika, Ruiru, Kericho, Nyeri, Railway, Nandi Bears, Great Rift Valley, Sigona, Kitale, Kisii, Leisure, Vipingo Ridge and Malindi golf clubs.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Grand Finale in December will feature 168 players as opposed to 116 from last year.<\/p>\n

KCB Group marketing and communications director, Rosalind Gichuru, stated: \u201cOur objective is to do our part in expanding the sport and giving an opportunity to budding golfers to hone their skills.”<\/p>\n

“This is centered on our brand purpose For People. For Better… aimed at opening opportunities to individuals, businesses and communities to realise their full potential and actualise their dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are also ensuring we take care of our environment, which is facing threats from the effects of climate change. We will, therefore, maintain the tree planting exercises across the clubs and incorporate the setting up and development of environmentally friendly LPG solutions,” Gichuru added.<\/p>\n

“We believe such interventions will help establish a low-carbon society and effectively utilize the existing energy sources while promoting renewable energy efforts.”<\/p>\n
