Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang has become the latest United Democratic Alliance (UDA) politician to publicly oppose the government\u2019s affordable housing project.<\/p>\n

The politician on Saturday urged President William Ruto to reconsider and rescind his affordable housing plan in Trans Nzoa County, saying it is likely to affect residents.<\/p>\n

Chesang, a close ally of the president, said the affordable housing project in Trans Nzoia would leave 5,000 residents homeless and affect other development projects that already exist.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is painful that the government that the people of Trans Nzoia County voted for is chasing them from their land. These are people who bought land from other people,” Chesang said.<\/p>\n

“The government has brought an army that has never been seen in this area. These soldiers are marking the beacons and chasing away the residents. It is against my wish.”<\/p>\n

He also claimed the project would disrupt amenities such as schools and hospitals, such as the Cherangany Level IV Hospital.<\/p>\n

“It is against my wish, and nataka niombe serikali kuu ya kwamba, we have many of our people and relatives in Trans Nzoia. People have been buried in this land, and we have many of our businesses on this land. In fact, we have our schools, both private and public in this land that will be affected,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

In his view, the project would disrupt the lives of the people who have established businesses on the land and even buried their loved ones.<\/p>\n

“We have our hospitals, for example, Cherangany nursing home, this hospital is a Level IV hospital and has been helping most of our people in Trans Nzoia,” Chesang said.<\/p>\n

Senator Chesang further noted that the initiative will cause untold suffering, even for the people who voted for President Ruto.<\/p>\n

\u201cMimi nataka niombe rais kwamba kuna wengi wataathirika ikiwemo vijana…na ni hawa vijana uliahidi kazi. Kuna wengi walinunua haya mashamba na sasa wataathirika,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHawa ni wakazi walikupigia kura. Kuna hospitali na mashule zitabomolewa.\u201d<\/p>\n

This translated to: “I want to request the president that many people including the youth will be affected. These are the youths who voted for you. Some bought the land. There are hospitals and schools that will be demolished.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Most of the UDA-allied politicians, including elected leaders, support the government projects except for Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, who has also opposed the affordable housing project.<\/p>\n
