Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>President William Ruto has once again warned school heads of sending learners home due to school fees arrears.<\/p>\n

Speaking in Kakamega, Ruto said no child should be sent home as the government already disbursed Sh7.5 billion to schools.<\/p>\n

“Our children especially those in the Junior Secondary Schools, there are some fishy happenings going on in these schools. Some children go to school and are told mambo ni mawili, there is JSS money that has not been sent, go home and bring your fees.<\/p>\n

The Head of State made it clear that no one has the authority to send JSS learners home.<\/p>\n

“I want to announce here that my administration has disbursed Sh7.5 billion to go towards the JSS learning fees,” Ruto added.<\/p>\n

Last month, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu announced he was sending teams across the country to investigate JSS that were charging parents fees.<\/p>\n

The CS said JSS ought to be free adding that no parent should pay even a shilling to have their learner in a JSS public institution.<\/p>\n

Machogu said he gave a warning and a circular was released with instructions to County Directors of Education on JSS being free.<\/p>\n

“I have constituted a team that will go around the country because there are a few con people who want to go against government directive that no fee should be charged at JSS level,” the CS said.<\/p>\n

He noted that the government released Sh7.5 billion for Junior Secondary Schools adding that Sh16 billion went to secondary schools while 4.7 billion went to primary schools.<\/p>\n

“Kenyans, if there is anyone who will con you by charging you even a shilling, they will be sent home. I won’t allow the President to fire me because of a few who don’t want to do their work as instructed,” Machogu said.<\/p>\n
