Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on Sunday will head to the United State of America for an official trip to among others meet his counterpart Lloyd Austin III.<\/p>\n

His office said he would be hosted by Austin during his four-day visit.<\/p>\n

The visit follows the signing of the Defense Cooperation Framework on September 25, 2023, in Nairobi, aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between Kenya and the United States.<\/p>\n

The U.S. and Kenyan delegations are set to engage in discussions covering various topics, including regional security, the implementation of counterterrorism measures outlined in the Bilateral Frameworks, the impact of climate change, joint training, maritime security, and opportunities for professional military academic institutions, officials have reported.<\/p>\n

As a testament to their commitment, the U.S. has pledged robust financial and logistical support of up to $100 million to bolster the Kenya Defence Forces.<\/p>\n

Additionally, a series of meetings are scheduled for Cabinet Secretary Duale, including sessions with Acting Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, members of the U.S. National Security Council, and Senators. Further, Duale is slated to deliver a lecture at the National Defence University in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n

The Framework that shall be effective between 2023-2028 shall help Kenya and the US expand their cooperation in the fields of defence technology and innovation, which shall enable the two militaries to respond effectively to the ever-evolving security challenges.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Duale participated in the 2nd Islamic Military Counter-Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) defense ministers meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n

During the event, he engaged in bilateral discussions with Saudi Deputy Defense Minister, Prince Abdulrahman Al-Muqrin.<\/p>\n

This visit to the U.S. follows recent high-profile interactions between Kenyan and U.S. officials.<\/p>\n

Notably, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin led a delegation to Nairobi, and General Michael Langley, Commander of United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), visited the Kenyan capital last month.<\/p>\n

The series of engagements continued with a meeting between CIA Director William Burns and President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi, on January 15, 2024.<\/p>\n

He also met other security bosses in Nairobi.<\/p>\n

Keya is among key strategic partners in the US security activities including terrorism and transnational organized crime.<\/p>\n

Duale hailed the United States for its pivotal role in advancing peace, security, and stability in the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes Region.<\/p>\n

Duale highlighted the strong collaboration between Kenya and the US Africom office, emphasizing the cooperative efforts in counter-terrorism, maritime security, and peace support operations.<\/p>\n

He argued the two countries to continue to partner in the field of intelligence sharing, maritime security, joint training and military assistance through Excess Defence Articles (EDA).<\/p>\n

Kenya and the US also have an active framework for Defence Cooperation running between 2023-2028 for the mutual benefit of the two countries.<\/p>\n
