Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Detectives have seized 132 bales of bhang after a truck ferrying them was intercepted Thursday night along Garissa-Thika Road in the Kyanunda area of Mwingi.<\/p>\n

The interception and subsequent recovery also saw two male suspects arrested.<\/p>\n

In a statement on X account on Friday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said those arrested were the driver and co-driver respectively.<\/p>\n

“In the intelligence-led operation conducted by a joint operation team, a truck was searched where an initial 28 bales were found on the roof cabin of the vehicle before it was escorted to the DCI headquarters for further processing by the Anti-Narcotics detectives,” they said.<\/p>\n

They said a thorough search revealed that the vehicle had a false bottom reinforced with strong bolts and rails where 104 bales had been stashed.<\/p>\n

The DCI further said to reduce chances of suspicion, the vehicle had carried 31 mattresses which the driver claimed to have been delivering to waiting customers.<\/p>\n

“The suspects have since been placed at Muthaiga Police Station and the exhibits secured awaiting weighing and sampling,” DCI said.<\/p>\n

In an earlier operation at Fedha Estate within Embakasi, a 51-year-old woman and his youthful male associate were arrested.<\/p>\n

The DCI said this was after sachets of heroin weighing 650 grams were found in their house.<\/p>\n

“The two were ambushed at Fedha Heights apartment following a tip-off on their drug trafficking deals,” DCI said.<\/p>\n

“Before they were escorted to Muthaiga Police Station pending processing and arraignment.”<\/p>\n

DCI said both operations were conducted jointly by the Anti-Narcotics and Operations Support Units.<\/p>\n
