Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Posta Rangers second-choice custodian Kelvin Opiyo has tipped regular John Njau to clinch the Kenyan Premier League Golden Glove Award.<\/p>\n

Gor Mahia\u2019s Kelvin Omondi leads the race with 14 clean sheets while Njau and Patrick Matasi of Kenya Police follow with 10 each.<\/p>\n

Njau, who joined the mailmen from Gor Mahia in 2021, has conceded only 10 goals since the start of the season, the same as Omondi while Matasi has conceded 17 times.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no doubt Njau will keep more clean sheets. There are still a lot of games to be played. The race is tough but I am confident he will clinch it,\u201d Opiyo said.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone has their moments in football. I had my moment and now this is Njau\u2019s moment. I fully support him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Opiyo, who draws inspiration from veteran German keeper Oliver Kahn, joined the mailmen in 2020 from National Super League side APS Bomet as the team\u2019s third-choice goalkeeper.<\/p>\n

He worked his way to a starter and even bagged the KPL Player of the Month award in April 2021.<\/p>\n

He has, however, dropped to second goalie following Njau’s excellent form.<\/p>\n

\u201cI support the team\u2019s choice in selecting Njau. He\u2019s a talented player no doubt and a great teammate,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Improvement in defence has been key for Posta and Opiyo said: \u201cOur defence has been top-notch this season. They are not letting in many goals and training has also been intense.\u201d<\/p>\n

Opiyo insisted they are still in the title race despite trailing leaders and champions Gor Mahia with 36 points against K’Ogalo’s 44.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is still a to win the title. We just lost some momentum that saw us move down the table but we will get back to the top,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Posta finished 12th last season with 40 points.<\/p>\n
