Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>President William Ruto has reprimanded retired President Uhuru Kenyatta over the implementation of his pet project, the Affordable Housing Programme.<\/p>\n

Ruto said the leaders in the previous regime are beginning to realise that it is possible to implement the affordable housing project.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are now wondering; it was true that housing is possible and we wasted time on reggae. They are actually seeing the housing project is possible,\u201d Ruto said.<\/p>\n

The Head of State made the remarks during a Cabinet retreat in Naivasha on Monday.<\/p>\n

Ruto expressed confidence that the housing programme will proceed as planned.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do not want to say that we will implement the affordable housing programme by whatever means possible,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

The President said those who are opposed to the programme, deep down in their hearts, know the project is the right thing.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir problem is that it is us who are implementing and not them. It is just as simple as that. That is their quarrel,\u201d Ruto added.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I heard one of our friends say the day before yesterday that when he sees things, he feels like crying, I knew he is realising that affordable housing is possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

The President added that developed nations have had similar projects to uplift the well-being of their people.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is what other progressive countries have done, and it has worked. It is not an invention. It is what it is,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ruto added that leaders who do not want the programme are always speaking about the Housing Levy.<\/p>\n

\u201cForget about the levy, let us talk about the jobs. The people who want the programme will talk about the jobs and decent housing for Kenyans and new homeowners,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

He urged MPs to support the Affordable Housing Bill, 2023 when it comes up in Parliament.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe court said we had left out some people, who were not paying the levy. And I said this is good news, maybe we should go for those.\u201d<\/p>\n
