Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kenya and the Slovak Republic on Wednesday signed a cooperation agreement that will see the two countries work together to strengthen the Kenyan cybersecurity space.<\/p>\n

The signing of the bilateral cybersecurity cooperation follows discussions that began on March 8, 2023.<\/p>\n

This collaboration will enable Kenya to leverage expertise and resources from the Slovak Republic, to build a secure and resilient cyberspace, in an increasingly complex digital landscape.<\/p>\n

The signed MoU focuses on four critical areas of collaboration, including the enhancement of incident response capabilities to strengthen Kenya’s ability to respond quickly and effectively to cyberattacks, while minimizing potential damage to critical infrastructure.<\/p>\n

It also touches on Collaborative research on cybersecurity cases and best practices by leveraging the expertise of the Slovak Republic for joint research and ensuring Kenya stays updated on the latest cybersecurity trends and defence strategies.<\/p>\n

Capacity building and training in cyber and information security to upskill Kenya cybersecurity professionals to enhance their capabilities, as well as sharing of cybersecurity information to facilitate timely intelligence sharing on emerging cyber threats, enabling proactive security measures.<\/p>\n

According to the Interior PS, the cooperation will help in the implementation of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, 2018.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis collaboration comes at a pivotal time, following the recent publication of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, 2018 (CMCA) and is expected to further operationalize parts of the CMCA and strengthen the role of the National Computer and Cybercrimes Coordination Committee (NC4). Efforts are also underway to improve the training of Law enforcement, Judiciary, and the Private sector to better address cybercrime challenges,\u201d Omollo said.<\/p>\n

The signing of the MOU was witnessed by the Interior Principal Secretary, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic and the Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Kenya at Harambee House, Nairobi.<\/p>\n

It was signed by the Director National Computer and Cybercrimes Coordination Committee (NC4) and his counterpart from the Slovak Republic representing the National Cyber Centre.<\/p>\n

Last year, following a meeting between PS Omollo and Ambassador Katari\u0301na Leligdonova, a technical team was constituted to draft a Memorandum of Understanding on areas of cooperation.<\/p>\n

A Kenyan delegation later visited Slovakia on a fact-finding mission in November 2023, over the same.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the signing, a Slovakian cybersecurity delegation visited Kenya on February 27.<\/p>\n
