Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Chief Justice Martha Koome has congratulated the newly elected Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo and the society’s male representative to the Judicial Service Commission Omwanza Ombati.<\/p>\n

The two were voted into their respective posts on Thursday for a tenure of two years.<\/p>\n

In her message on Friday, she noted that Odhiambo marked a significant milestone clinching the seat and becoming the second woman to lead LSK.<\/p>\n

The CJ described the win as a “remarkable step towards promoting inclusion and diversity in our professional organisations”.<\/p>\n

“I look forward to working closely with Odhiambo and her council, as well as with Ombati at the Judicial Service Commission, to continue championing these transformative objectives,” Koome said.<\/p>\n

She also congratulated candidates who participated in the elections and advocated across the country for observing peace and order during both the campaign period and on election day.<\/p>\n

Koome noted that the Judiciary and LSK have historically adopted a collaborative and consultative approach in working towards their shared objective.<\/p>\n

This includes enhancing access to justice, improving the efficiency of their system of administration of justice, and advancing the rule of law in the country.<\/p>\n

In the results that will be officially announced on March 5, Odhiambo garnered 3,113 votes as Peter Wanyama came in second with 2,165 votes.<\/p>\n

Carolyne Kamende came third with 888 with Bernard Ng’etich managing 833 votes while Njoki Mboce got 511 votes.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Ombati had 3,357 votes against his primary contestant outgoing LSK president Eric Theuri who got 3,292 votes.<\/p>\n

Other contestants Ishmael Nyaribo and Professor Mwabile, received 95 and 629 votes respectively.<\/p>\n

A total of 7,521 out of the 15,715 registered members cast their vote in the LSK elections.<\/p>\n

Of those, 7510 of the votes cast were declared valid.<\/p>\n
