Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Former vice Chief of Defence Forces Lt General Jonah Mwangi has landed a new role moments after retiring from service.<\/p>\n

Mwangi has been nominated as Kenya\u2019s ambassador to Iran alongside several other envoys to various countries.<\/p>\n

Also nominated is outgoing Kenya Army commander Lt General Peter Njiru who, if approved, by Parliament will be Kenya\u2019s high commissioner to Pakistan.<\/p>\n

Their exit from service was communicated in a press release issued Friday morning by the Ministry of Defence.<\/p>\n

This followed a Defence Council meeting held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.<\/p>\n

They Friday morning briefed President William Ruto as the Commander in Chief on their agreements before making it public.<\/p>\n

In the announcement, Maj General Charles Muriu Kahariri was promoted to Lt General and named the new VCDF while Maj General David Kimaiyo Tarus was appointed to take over as Commander Kenya Army.<\/p>\n

Mwangi and Njiru are retiring after attaining their mandatory retirement ages.<\/p>\n

A General is supposed to retire at 62, a lieutenant general at 61, a major general at 59 and a Brigadier at 57 years.<\/p>\n

The communication from the Office of the President said their names have already been submitted to the National Assembly for consideration.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis Excellency the President has transmitted the nominations of High Commissioners, Ambassadors, and Permanent Representatives to the National Assembly for consideration and approval by Parliament in fulfilment of the legal requirements set out under our nation’s supreme law,\u201d reads the release.<\/p>\n
