Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>President William Ruto has explained why he picked retired KDF generals for ‘challenging’ diplomatic roles in Iran and Pakistan.<\/p>\n

Ruto has nominated immediate former Vice Chief of Defence Forces Lt Gen Jonah Mwangi and Kenya Army commander Peter Njiru to be the new envoys to Tehran, Iran and Islamabad, Pakistan respectively.<\/p>\n

Speaking at State House during the swearing-in of new military officers, Ruto commended their extensive experience deeming them well-suited for the demanding assignments.<\/p>\n

“I have given you difficult stations but I know you are up to that responsibility. Tehran and Islamabad are not very easy stations,” Ruto said.<\/p>\n

“Pakistan, we all know what is going on there. We also know what is going on in Iran and that is why I believe that senior citizens like yourselves with wide experience are the best to man those stations,” he added.<\/p>\n

The head of state also used the opportunity to congratulate them as they prepare to assume roles.<\/p>\n

They are now awaiting the vetting by MPs.<\/p>\n

He said he looks forward to having them serve Kenyans in new responsibilities and mentor the new officers succeeding them.<\/p>\n

Mwangi and Njiru are among several other individuals who have been nominated as high commissioners, ambassadors, permanent representatives, deputy heads of mission, consul-generals and special envoys to various countries.<\/p>\n

The communication from the Office of the President said their names have already been submitted to the National Assembly for consideration.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis Excellency the President has transmitted the nominations of High Commissioners, Ambassadors, and Permanent Representatives to the National Assembly for consideration and approval by Parliament in fulfilment of the legal requirements set out under our nation’s supreme law,\u201d reads the release.<\/p>\n
