Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>President William Ruto has asked leaders not to make implementation of government projects difficult by placing unnecessary hurdles.<\/p>\n

The Head of State said leaders must do everything possible to facilitate national and county government projects that seek to benefit citizens.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are our employers and it is the reason we have a job today,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Speaking in Wote, Makueni County, the President further said leaders should not give conditions to support projects.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis notion that I must get something, I must be consulted should not be there. Let us not do that. Nobody should get anything to support a project,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The President regretted that the government has been facing numerous hurdles whenever it embarks on projects, including those that directly benefit the people.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am speaking to you as your father figure. I want to plead with you to remove blocks. Those who have been given a job, do it,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Ruto suffered a setback last year when the courts issued orders blocking the implementation of key projects his administration wants to undertake.<\/p>\n

Chief among them is the High Court\u2019s declaration that the Housing Levy, through which the Kenya Kwanza seeks to build over 250,000 housing units, is illegal. The government later moved to the Court of Appeal to challenge the ruling.<\/p>\n

Apart from the housing levy, the government\u2019s plan for the Social Health Insurance Fund, the privatization of 11 parastatals including the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) and the proposed privatization of Lamu and Mombasa ports have also faced hurdles.<\/p>\n

The Kenya Kwanza administration also suffered another setback when the High Court halted plans to roll out Maisha Namba.<\/p>\n

The court halted the rollout of the Maisha Namba, a unique personal identification number assigned to the Maisha Card, a third-generation digital identity card, and the implementation of the National Master Population Register, which is intended to consolidate existing and independent databases into a single register.<\/p>\n
