Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kenya is set to host the International School Sport Federation (ISF) world cross-country championships for schools from May 10 to 14, 2024.<\/p>\n

The event is expected to attract more than 500 children drawn from 20 countries and born between 2006 and 2011.<\/p>\n

Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang presided over the official launch of the forthcoming championships at Ngong racecourse on Friday.<\/p>\n

Belio thanked the ISF for nominating Kenya to host the 2024 World Schools Cross Country Championship.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe feel privileged for this opportunity to be the first country in Sub-Saharan Africa to host the ISF World Cross Country Championship for Schools,\u201d the PS said.<\/p>\n

He said the launch of the event affirms further Kenya\u2019s commitment to organise and ensure the success of the event.<\/p>\n

Both boys and girls will take part in the event. Those under 12 years will run an average of 1.2km and 2.5km as well.<\/p>\n

Those under the age of 18 will run a maximum of 5.5km.<\/p>\n

The race for the girls will cover slightly less distance compared to the boys.<\/p>\n

Slovakia hosted the ISF championships last year.<\/p>\n

Present during the launch included in the Ministry of Sports Administration Secretary Evans Achoki, Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) President Kipchumba Maiyo and Kenya Academy of Sports Chief Executive Officer Doreen Odhiambo.<\/p>\n

Others were Athletics Kenya President Jackson Tuwei, ISF Delegate Joseph Olabisi, ISF Event Director Uros Savic, ISF Technical Commission president for Athletics Nihat Doker.<\/p>\n
