The deal , which will see the renaming of the league to BetKing Division One League is worth Sh100 million for a period of five years.<\/p>\n<p>The 32 Division One clubs from Zone A and Zone B will be allocated\u00a0at least Sh500,000 annual grant from the Federation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the first time in the history of Kenyan football that the Division One league has attracted a sponsor and so we are happy to announce yet another milestone as we endeavor to raise Kenyan football\u2019s commercial value,\u201d said FKF President Nick Mwendwa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe this deal, which further underpins BetKing\u2019s commercial developmental role in football, both at the national and grassroot level will not only help ease our clubs\u2019 financial obligations but also play a pivotal role in raising the level of competition in the league,\u201d added the FKF president.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.standardmedia.co.ke\/images\/monday\/wjafifexonwhup5f158ec3a7ce6.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><figcaption>FKF President Nick Mwendwa at Goal Project unveiling Sh1.2 billion sponsorship deal with Betking towards sponsoring the Kenyan Premier League and the Women League. Ronald Karauri (@KarauriR) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KarauriR\/status\/1284772073496354818?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 19, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Kenyans, more so betting enthusiasts, you could say were left clutching at straws following the wave of closure of betting sites that failed to comply with taxation and licensing rules.<\/p>\n<p>SportPesa, having been the biggest betting firm in terms of popularity, shut down all its operations in the county in September last year, citing \u2018hostile regulations\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sportpesa is disappointed with the decision by the Kenyan legislature to impose a 20% excise tax on all betting stakes.\u00a0The tax is based on a fundamental misunderstanding by the Rotich led treasury of how revenue generation works in the bookmaker industry. &#8220;Until such time that adequate taxation and non-hostile regulatory environment is returned, the SportPesa brand will halt operations in Kenya,&#8221; said the firm in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The firm was optimistic of resuming operations when once the country put in place &#8220;adequate taxation and non-hostile regulatory environment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>However, this never happened.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AfricaPress-Kenya: Football Kenya Federation has announced BetKing Kenya as the official Division One League title sponsors.
