Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Konza Technopolis has adopted an advanced civil engineering solution that cuts costs and time in the development of the Nairobi Mombasa – Highway link road.<\/p>\n

Admir Technologies Kenya Country manager Anthony Irungu revealed that Italian Construction firm ICM Maltauro will help to integrate an asphalt reinforcement solution.<\/p>\n

\u201cAsphalt reinforcement grids play a pivotal role in this endeavor by assisting in load distribution, preventing reflective cracks, and increasing the load-bearing capacity of the reinforced pavement layer.”<\/p>\n

“These grids enhance the tensile strength capabilities of bituminous layers, ensuring durability and longevity,\u201d Francis Kibara, the Konza Technopolis engineer in charge of Streetscapes, said.<\/p>\n

Highlighting the significance of the day\u2019s exercise, Kibara noted that finally, Konza Technopolis has been linked to the rest of Kenya\u2019s infrastructure by the completion of the link to the Nairobi \u2013 Mombasa highway and is now more than ready for business.<\/p>\n

He described this as a significant milestone.<\/p>\n

This solution increases the strength of the asphalt by up to 40 per cent to ensure that heavy trucks and related traffic entering the Technopolis do not damage the road.<\/p>\n

Geo-synthetics are manufactured synthetic materials (made from polymers or hydrocarbon chains) used for a wide range of engineering applications.<\/p>\n

In infrastructure development, geo-synthetics, including geocells, geogrids, and geotextiles, increase the pavement\u2019s load-bearing capacity while significantly reducing the pavement thickness.<\/p>\n

This reduces both cost and construction time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe innovative solution increases the load-bearing capacity on this road section outside our weight-controlled road network by spreading the wheel load through the asphalt reinforcement grid solution.”<\/p>\n

According to him, this also reduces potential rutting, which would lead to pavement failure.<\/p>\n
