Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hailed Kenya\u2019s advanced political tolerance, saying Kenyans freely criticise him and even say he has not gone to school.<\/p>\n

The DP who addressed Kenyans living in Rwanda said the Kenya Kwanza administration is open to positive criticism.<\/p>\n

“In Kenya, there is political tolerance, everybody is allowed to do what they want; criticise the president, criticise the deputy president and even say he has not gone to school,\u2019\u2019 Gachagua said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSay whatever you want to say but don\u2019t break the law, don\u2019t destroy other people\u2019s property and respect the rights of others to have different views.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Highlighting the country\u2019s achievements over the recent past, Gachagua said the prevailing political stability has put the country back on the trajectory of economic development.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have political stability and everybody is busy, politics are down, there is no Maandamano, and we are back to the right trajectory in terms of economic development and stability,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

Gachagua spoke in Rwanda when he held a meeting with Kenyans living there on Saturday evening,<\/p>\n

Talking about the country\u2019s transparency policy, Gachagua said the Kenya Kwanza administration is open to any criticism and checks and balances.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur government is ready to be oversighted, to be corrected and to be criticised constructively,\u2019\u2019 Gachagua said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOurs is an open government, we are an open book.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

The DP gave the example of the government\u2019s move to allow Cabinet Secretaries time to answer to questions in Parliament as an indication of its open-door policy.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur cabinet Secretaries go to parliament every week to answer to questions on what they are doing in their line ministries and they are taken to task by members of the National Assembly,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

Gachagua said that the president has asked all those appearing to respond to inquiries from MPs that they are under obligation to answer all questions asked.<\/p>\n

The DP is in Rwanda to represent President William Ruto during the country’s national event to commemorate its worst moments of genocide.<\/p>\n
