Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>West Mugirango MP Stephen Mogaka has appealed to his predecessor Vincent Kemosi to reconsider the decision to decline his nomination as Kenya\u2019s ambassador to Ghana.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Kemosi via a letter to the National Assembly\u2019s Foreign Relations and Intelligence Committee, explained that he wouldn’t accept the nomination due to personal and family reasons.<\/p>\n

However, his Member of Parliament urged Kemosi to reconsider and accept President William Ruto\u2019s nomination.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do appeal that the nominee for the high commission to Ghana reconsiders the decision he made and quickly recants and revokes the letter that was tendered to Parliament and he quickly submits himself to vetting so that the appointment process is concluded,\u2019\u2019 Mogaka said.<\/p>\n

The MP said that Kemosi\u2019s decision to decline the job would hurt his constituents who were banking on the appointment to reap the many trickle-down benefits that would come with the nomination.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot doing so is jeopardising the position that I was counting on for my constituency because the basket of that income from the exchequer that was going to trickle down to my constituency by virtue of this appointment is a loss that I do not want to stare in the face,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

According to Mogaka, should Kemosi insist that he will not take up the position despite the appeal to reconsider his decision, then the President should think about appointing someone else from West Mugirango.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the nominee does not revoke that letter and takes up the job, I do plead that he be replaced by a suitable candidate from my constituency,\u2019\u2019 the MP said.<\/p>\n

Mogaka said the President had shown tremendous goodwill to Kemosi by nominating him as Kenya\u2019s envoy to Ghana even after his earlier nomination as a Chief Administrative Secretary ran into headwinds.<\/p>\n

\u201dI truly thank the President for consistently showing his love and commitment in supporting my constituency and particularly in nurturing young leaders like the nominee for ambassadorial appointment to Ghana,\u2019\u2019 Mogaka said in a statement.<\/p>\n

The MP who was elected on the Jubilee party ticket appealed to the President not to \u2018give up on my constituency.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cI tender my apology and that of the people of West Mugirango,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

In his letter to Parliament, Kemosi said his decision was informed by compelling personal and family matters.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish to inform you that I will not appear before the said Committee at the time and the venue specified for a formal hearing,\u201d the letter reads.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has been occasioned by my personal and compelling family matters which after taking into consideration do not allow me to take up the position as the High Commissioner to Ghana as nominated by President on March 9, 2024.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTherefore to save the precious time of this important Parliamentary business and as per the provision of the Act aforementioned kindly note and this letter serves as notice not to appear.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI thank you for your invitation.\u201d<\/p>\n
