Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The newly appointed seven-member Communication and Multimedia Appeals Tribunal took the oath of office on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by Deputy Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, Paul Ndemo at the Supreme Court, Nairobi.<\/p>\n

Also sworn in was a Member of the Legal Education Appeals Tribunal, Stephen Gitonga, who has been re-appointed for another term.<\/p>\n

Ndemo said that the team has been called upon to serve with dedication, and must do so.<\/p>\n

\u201cTribunals are one of the mechanisms established to offload cases from the mainstream justice system. They deal with thematic matters and are expected to deliver justice expeditiously. Their procedures are also simpler and less technical than courts,\u201d Ndemo stated during the ceremony.<\/p>\n

The tribunal comprises chairperson Rosemary Kuria and members Patience Nyange, Vivienne Namadoa, Manyura Tiberius, Ruth Okowa, Timothy Toroney and Samson Kitonyi.<\/p>\n

The seven were appointed by ICT CS Eliud Owalo via a special gazette notice dated March 25.<\/p>\n

They will serve in the Appeals Tribunal for the next three years.<\/p>\n

The Tribunal’s mandate includes the determination of appeals against the decisions of the industry regulators, the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) and the Media Council of Kenya (MCK).<\/p>\n
