{"id":117952,"date":"2024-05-01T19:29:43","date_gmt":"2024-05-01T19:29:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/all-news\/thika-superhighway-closed-at-kahawa-sukari-drift"},"modified":"2024-05-01T20:05:33","modified_gmt":"2024-05-01T20:05:33","slug":"thika-superhighway-closed-at-kahawa-sukari-drift","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/all-news\/thika-superhighway-closed-at-kahawa-sukari-drift","title":{"rendered":"Thika Superhighway closed at Kahawa Sukari Drift"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The Kenya National Highways Authority has announced the closure of a section fo Thika Road at Kahawa Sukari Drift.<\/p>\n<p>The closed area is between the Kahawa Barracks and Kenyatta University.<\/p>\n<p>The closure follows heavy rains that pounded the City on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Motorists heading to Thika may use Kiambu Road and turn off to Northern Bypass to Ruiru and Vice versa,&#8221; KeNHA.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The authority cautions road users against any attempts to use section if the road in the interest of their safety.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>KenHA said they will continue to monitor the water levels and advise when the water levels subsides.<\/p>\n<p>Many people were Wednesday morning stranded after Thika Road flooded at Kenyatta University and Juja.<\/p>\n<p>Traffic flow along the Thika Super Highway was affected after a section of the highway was submerged by water, particularly the Thika bound on the underpass of the Juja Flyover area.<\/p>\n<p>Motorists were using Service Lane to access the highway past the High Point area.<\/p>\n<p>Also submerged are Traffic Police Offices within Juja Police Station.<\/p>\n<p>Police are said to have turned away motorists on both sides of the road to avert a tragedy.<\/p>\n<p>Police appealed to motorists to exercise due caution when using the Juja Super Highway.<\/p>\n<p>Motor vehicles from Nairobi heading towards Thika were making u-turns and coming back to the Githurai roundabout.<\/p>\n<p>No motor vehicles were heading to Nairobi from Thika.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\">Kenya<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Kenya.
