Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Thursday joined thousands of mourners in an emotional memorial service for 61 victims of the Maai-Mahiu flooding tragedy. https:\/\/rb.gy\/428twr<\/p>\n

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has attended a memorial service for Mai Mahiu flood victims.<\/p>\n

The event is being held at Mor Gas Grounds in Mai Mahiu, Nakuru.<\/p>\n

Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika accompanied Gachagua at the funeral service memorial.<\/p>\n

The Maai Mahiu tragedy resulted in the loss of 60 lives, with 51 individuals still unaccounted for and 52 others sustaining injuries during the events that transpired last week.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki gazetted Friday, May 10, as a public holiday for purposes of countrywide tree-growing activities.<\/p>\n

He said the day will also be observed in solidarity with all those who have been affected by the “cyclic floods and subsequent droughts in recent times”.<\/p>\n
