Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has for the first time hinted at the existence of a rift in the Kenya Kwanza government following weeks of speculations.<\/p>\n

Addressing residents of Kesses, Uasin gishu on Saturday, the DP accused a section of leaders from the Rift Valley region who are close to President William Ruto of sowing seeds of discord in the Mt Kenya region.<\/p>\n

The DP said the leaders have teamed up with youthful leaders from the Mt Kenya region to scheme to take power.<\/p>\n

“The problem is a few leaders from this region (Rift Valley) who have proximity to the president ndo wanakoroga siasa ya huko kwetu, kudanganya watu waanze kupanga mambo ya 2032. That is the problem there,” Gachagua said.<\/p>\n

Gachagua spoke during fundraising for a women empowerment programme in Kesses, on the invitation of the area MP Hon Julius Rutto.<\/p>\n

He had earlier attended, the Episcopal Ordination and Installation of Auxiliary Bishop-Elect Monsignor John Kimplimo Lelei of the Catholic Diocese of Eldoret.<\/p>\n

He, however, did not disclose their names.<\/p>\n

The comments came a day after the Former Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri faulted a cabinet secretary and vocal MP from Rift Valley for allegedly fighting the DP in the government.<\/p>\n

Ngunjiri accused the officials of scheming to dislodge the DP from the government in their bid to seize power in future.<\/p>\n

Allegations of fallout in the Kenya Kwanza government emerged after the DP retreated to his rural home in Nyeri.<\/p>\n

The DP kept out of the limelight for about a week fueling speculations of emerging cracks in the barely two-year-old government.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, the DP confirmed he switched off his phones to avoid being disturbed saying the moment he kept out of the limelight was time for fasting and reflection.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had taken seven days away for prayers, fasting, meditation, and no phones and nobody could disturb me. I had to meditate for the state of the nation and welfare of this region,\u201d Gachagua said.<\/p>\n

He also used the opportunity to hit out to leaders who he claimed were being used to divide the community.<\/p>\n

Gachagua said that he was ready to fight for the interests of the region and urged the people to unite and speak in one voice.<\/p>\n

“Mt Kenya people are wise and they can tell when politics are at play, don’t allow anyone to divide us,” he said.<\/p>\n

He noted that the narrative being pushed that it’s the turn for other counties in Mt Kenya to rule is retrogressive and aimed at dividing the community.<\/p>\n
