{"id":11961,"date":"2020-07-29T18:02:09","date_gmt":"2020-07-29T18:02:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/kenya\/?p=11961"},"modified":"2020-07-29T18:02:09","modified_gmt":"2020-07-29T18:02:09","slug":"kagwe-amina-and-oparanya-featured-in-list-of-2020-most-reputable-africans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/community\/kagwe-amina-and-oparanya-featured-in-list-of-2020-most-reputable-africans","title":{"rendered":"Kagwe, Amina and Oparanya featured in list of 2020 Most Reputable Africans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>AfricaPress-Kenya:<\/strong> Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed are some of the Kenyans who have made it to 2020 list of 100 Most Reputable Africans.<\/p>\n<p>Global award-winner teacher Peter Tabichi from Keriko Mixed Day Secondary School and lawyer Prof Patrick Lumumba have also made it to the list helping Kenya to claim five spots.\u00a0The five are among the 47 African women and 53 African men who were picked based on their contributions in the various fields such as governance, business and leadership in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>According to Reputation Poll International, the reputation-management body which handles the nomination process; individuals are selected based on their score on three core values, namely; integrity, visibility and impact. The nominees are from sectors such as Leadership, Entertainment, Advocacy, Education and Business.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVery prominent personalities featured in the list include: Ethiopia\u2019s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed; Nigeria\u2019s Dr Paul Enenche, South Africa\u2019s Prof. Wiseman L. Nkuhlu, Chancellor of the University of Pretoria and Chairman of Rothschild (SA);<\/p>\n<p>Guinean Economist Cellou Dalein Diallo, and Cameroon\u2019s\u00a0Dr Vera Songwe, Executive Secretary, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa,\u201d Reputation Poll International notes on its website.\u00a0The body states that two African presidents, a vice president and some policymakers were selected based on their impressive scores on governance.<\/p>\n<p>On a business perspective, South Africa\u2019s Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, Ethiopia\u2019s Bethlehem Tilahun Alemu and Nigeria\u2019s Folorunso Alakija were picked for their contributions globally.<\/p>\n<p>Ethiopia\u2019s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Sierra Leone\u2019s Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE, Nigeria\u2019s Ngozi Okonjo Iweala and Ghana\u2019s former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang also made it on the list for making an impact on leadership.\u00a0However, the Reputation Poll International did not go deeper to account for the selection of five Kenyans.<\/p>\n<p>CS Kagwe on April 4, 2020, hit the international headlines when American media outlet Wall Street Journal hailed his management of the coronavirus interventions. This was just days after the first case was noted in Kenya on March 13.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Kenya&#8217;s unlikely coronavirus hero is Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe,\u201d Sam Walker who authored the article published by the Wall Street Journal partly wrote. Governor Oparanya, who chairs the Council of Governors has also been at the forefront in crafting and reviewing coronavirus health safety protocols. Oparanya and Kagwe have worked closely to lead the Covid-19 Emergency Response team to upscale country\u2019s preparedness for the disease.<\/p>\n<p>CS Amina, on the other hand, has been the topic of discourse after she was nominated to vie for the top job at the World Trade Organisation.\u00a0Amina who has been touted as one of the favourites faces five other candidates from Egypt, Mexico, Moldova, Nigeria and South Korea in the race for the job. Prof PLO Lumumba has also cut a niche as an expert in governance and legal affairs.<\/p>\n<p>Science teacher and Franciscan friar at Keriko Mixed Day Secondary School Peter Tabich was feted as the World\u2019s Best Teacher with prize money of Sh100 million last year.
