Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kenya Airways is resuming direct flights between Nairobi and the Mozambican capital Maputo on Wednesday, four years after suspension, in order to \u201cboost\u201d socio-economic development, Aeroportos de Moc\u0327ambique (ADM) announced on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis resumption marks a significant strategic step in ADM, E.P.\u2019s ongoing efforts to strengthen air connectivity and boost the country\u2019s socio-economic development,\u201d according to a statement from the company to which Lusa had access.<\/p>\n

The flights between the two capitals will run three times a week, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, according to the Kenyan company, one of the largest on the African continent, with a hub in Nairobi.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis flight will facilitate greater movement of people and goods, creating new opportunities for trade, investment and cooperation between Mozambique and Kenya, as well as other parts of East Africa,\u201d said ADM.<\/p>\n

According to the statement issued by the Mozambican state-owned company, this direct connection by Kenya Airways \u201cwill allow for a more efficient flow\u201d of goods between Nairobi and Maputo, \u201creducing logistical costs\u201d and transport time.<\/p>\n

\u201cMozambican companies will have faster access to international markets, strengthening supply chains and increasing competitiveness,\u201d reads the document.<\/p>\n

The state company that manages Mozambican airports adds that this connection will also promote Mozambique\u2019s tourism potential: \u201cThe direct flight will facilitate the arrival of tourists from Kenya and other destinations connected by Nairobi, promoting Mozambique as an attractive tourist destination.\u201d<\/p>\n

In August 2020, Kenya Airways announced the suspension of flights to Maputo, as part of a restructuring of routes in the post-Covid-19 pandemic period, which also included the interruption of connections to Luanda, the capital of Angola.<\/p>\n
