{"id":127387,"date":"2024-09-19T19:59:24","date_gmt":"2024-09-19T19:59:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/all-news\/kenya-to-mark-world-clean-up-day-2024-on-friday"},"modified":"2024-09-19T20:33:24","modified_gmt":"2024-09-19T20:33:24","slug":"kenya-to-mark-world-clean-up-day-2024-on-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/all-news\/kenya-to-mark-world-clean-up-day-2024-on-friday","title":{"rendered":"Kenya to mark World Clean up Day 2024 on Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kenya will on Friday join the global community in marking the 2024 World Clean Up Day whose aim is to raise awareness on waste mismanagement by mobilising the society to participate in cleanup actions.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Thursday, the National Environment Management Authority (Nema) said the event will be held at the Michuki Memorial Park, Nairobi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year&#8217;s theme is Make Room for Life, #Towards Zero Waste!\u201d Deputy director, of corporate communication, Evans Nyabuto, said.<\/p>\n<p>He said Cabinet Secretary, of the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change,, and Forestry, Aden Duale, will be the guest of honour.<\/p>\n<p>World Clean Up Day is celebrated every year on the 20th day of September vide a UN General Assembly (UNGA) proclamation in its Resolution 78\/122.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative unites people from all over the world to tackle the waste crisis through collective action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn this day, individuals, governments, corporations, and organisations are all encouraged to take part in cleanups and to find solutions to tackle mismanaged waste,\u201d Nyabuto said.<\/p>\n<p>Declared results for the 2023 exercise as per the 2023 Annual Report indicate that 19.1 million people participated in the clean-up exercise last year worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>The report says a total of 198 countries and territories took part in the exercise, including 90 percent of UN member states.<\/p>\n<p>It adds that 219,000 tonnes of waste collected.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About Kenya Follow Africa-Press<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Kenya.
