Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) of Kenya on Tuesday, October 8, announced the appointment of Patrick Korir, the Nairobi City Stars Chief Executive as its interim CEO.<\/p>\n

The governing body has tapped Korir to lead the federation in the interim following the resignation of Barry Otieno as CEO. The former will take over the federation at a time when Kenyan football continues to be hampered by poor governance, lack of infrastructure and talent flight.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn response to this development, FKF has swiftly appointed Patrick Korir as the Interim CEO, effective immediately,\u201d read part of the statement.<\/p>\n

Patrick is an experienced professional within the sports sector having held various roles ranging from a sports journalist to a sports administrator as the CEO of a Kenya Premier League team.<\/p>\n

FKF in a statement exuded confidence that Patrick brings to the table in-depth understanding of the game, steady hands and a rich football management experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe that Patrick Korir will play a pivotal role in this transition and help steer the Federation toward even greater success,\u201d FKD added.<\/p>\n

Barry Otieno quit his position as FKF CEO on Monday ahead of the upcoming national elections slated for December 7, 2024. He is rumoured to be eyeing the FKF President position with the incumbent Nick Mwendwa ineligible to run for a third term.<\/p>\n

In a heartfelt tribute, FKF lauded Otieno for his leadership and the sheer level of work he had put in to steer Kenyan football amid a flurry of challenges.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Federation expresses its sincere gratitude for his contributions and wishes him all the best in his future endeavours,\u201d FKF stated.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Korir in his new capacity will be expected to work very closely with the FKF team in place to deliver on his mandate.<\/p>\n

Top of his in-tray is to ensure that ongoing projects and key activities initiated by the outgoing CEO are completed according to plan.<\/p>\n

Despite the change of guard, FKF has assured stakeholders that the new leadership will pick up on the mantle and deliver on the organisation’s long-term blueprint which includes finishing projects and programs initiated by former leaderships.<\/p>\n
