Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has issued a powerful call to Africa\u2019s youth, urging them to rise as the custodians of a self-reliant, united continent.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the second annual Guild Leaders\u2019 Summit held at Makerere University, Kenyatta challenged young leaders to view themselves as the final guardians of Africa\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are the last line of defence in the battle to rescue the heart and soul of Africa,\u201d he declared, capturing the spirit of urgency and empowerment that echoed throughout the summit.<\/p>\n

Citing the inward turn of developed nations, Kenyatta described the current moment as Africa\u2019s new \u201cindependence era,\u201d where the continent must forge its own path.<\/p>\n

Addressing the economic challenges facing the region, Kenyatta spotlighted intra-African trade, which accounts for less than 2.5 per cent of global commerce.<\/p>\n

He called for the removal of barriers to trade and free movement, emphasizing innovation, unity, and youth-led transformation as critical tools for progress.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one is coming to save us,\u201d he told the crowd of university guild leaders and student delegates.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the world turns inward, the places to seek refuge are disappearing. You are the freedom fighters of this generation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kenyatta underscored the pivotal role of universities, describing them as \u201cincubators of change,\u201d and reminded students that they are \u201ctrustees of tomorrow\u2019s Africa.\u201d<\/p>\n

Also addressing the summit was Uganda\u2019s Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, who called for unwavering commitment to unity, Pan-Africanism, and hard work.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou must embrace the spirit of Pan-Africanism,\u201d she urged.<\/p>\n

However, she also acknowledged the gap between rhetoric and real progress.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is easy to say these words. The challenge lies in collective implementation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Organised by the Guild Presidents Leadership Academy, the summit served as a rallying point for East Africa\u2019s youth to confront the continent\u2019s challenges with boldness and purpose.<\/p>\n

As global solidarity recedes, the summit marked a turning point for African agency\u2014and a generation ready to shape history.<\/p>\n
