Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>A section of Kenya Kwanza leaders has disagreed with former President Uhuru Kenyatta over his remarks on the youth. This comes after the former president urged the youth to stand up for their rights and be involved in the governance issues of the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have the numbers, you have the time and you have the energy to get involved and stay involved in governance discussions until you effect the changes you wish to see,\u201d Uhuru said Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one is coming to save us, and as the world turns increasingly inward, the places to seek refuge are rapidly disappearing.<\/p>\n

\u201d<\/p>\n

But in a rejoinder to the remarks, leaders allied to Ruto claimed the former president was rallying the youths against the current administration led by President William Ruto.<\/p>\n

Led by Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, the MPs allied to Ruto asked the former President to let Ruto govern the country in peace. \u201cYou had your time as president, and you did your part.<\/p>\n

Let Ruto govern the country in peace. We have respected you as the former President, but we will come for you if you continue criticising the government,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, on his part, challenged Uhuru to showcase what he did for the youths when he served as President. \u201cIf you really care for the youths as you claim now, show us what you did for them.<\/p>\n

If you had an opportunity to serve and you have retired, let the current leaders work in peace,\u201d Barasa said. The leaders spoke on Sunday during a church service at ACK Tumaini in Eldoret.<\/p>\n

Others present included Uasin Gishu governor Jonathan Bii, MPs Reuben Kiborek (Mogotio), Charles Kamuren (Baringo), Gabriek Kagombe (Gatundu South), Elijah Kururia (Gatundu North) and Ann Wamuratha (Kiambu Woman Rep).<\/p>\n

The three MPs from the Mt Kenya region defended the performance of President William Ruto, saying they will not be cowed to stop supporting his regime.<\/p>\n

Kagombe said the Mt Kenya region and its leaders will rally behind Ruto in his bid to develop the country. \u201cWe have decided to stand with President Ruto and will support him always. The noise being made by one person will not stop us from backing Ruto,\u201d said Kagombe.<\/p>\n
