\nAfricaPress-Kenya:<\/strong> Kenya has recorded 53 more Covid-19 positive cases in the past 24 hours raising the country’s total caseload to 38,168.<\/p>\n

In a statement sent to media houses by the Ministry of Health on Monday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe (pictured) said the new cases are from 1,107 samples which push the country\u2019s cumulative tests to 541, 415.<\/p>\n

In terms of gender, 32\u00a0are male and 21\u00a0are female while the youngest case is four-year-old and the oldest is aged 76.<\/p>\n

Of the new cases, 50 are Kenyans while three are foreigners.<\/p>\n

On a positive note, 60 patients recovered with 36\u00a0on the home-based care programme while 24\u00a0were discharged from various hospitals bringing the total number of recoveries to 24, 681.<\/p>\n

On a sad note, Kagwe said nine\u00a0patients died from Covid-19 bringing Kenya\u2019s fatalities to 700.<\/p>\n

Nairobi and Meru\u00a0recorded 11 cases each, Kiambu 6, Uasin Gishu 6, Nakuru 4, Kajiado 3, Garissa 2, Busia 2, Laikipia 2, Machakos 2, Makueni 1, Embu 1, Kisumu 1, Kwale 1.<\/p>\n

In Nairobi the 11\u00a0cases are from Embakasi West and Langata (2) cases each, Embakasi South, asarani, Kibra, Makadara, Roysambu, Starehe, and Westlands (1) case each.<\/p>\n

In Meru, the 11 cases are from Igembe North (9), Imenti North and Imenti South (1) case each.<\/p>\n

In Kiambu, the 6 cases are from Ruiru (3), Juja, Kiambu town and Thika (1) case each.<\/p>\n

Lifting curfew?<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Uhuru Kenyatta\u00a0on Saturday gave indications that the country was ready to embrace a new normal when he ordered more sporting events to be allowed to go on.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe resumption of sporting events is proof of our adaptation and readiness to the new normal. I want to ask the Ministry of Sports to redouble its efforts in re-convening major sporting events,\u201d said Uhuru at the re-opening of the refurbished Nyayo Stadium.<\/p>\n

The president has been holding meetings with various teams seized with the management of the\u00a0pandemic\u00a0ahead of the address. On Friday, he met with the Inter-Faith Council, who briefed him on how they are prepared.<\/p>\n

The National Co-ordination Committee on the Coronavirus\u00a0Pandemic\u00a0chaired by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang\u2019i has been holding a series of meetings in preparation for the conference and address.<\/p>\n

He also said ‘Covid-19 Heroes\u2019 will be honoured due to their exemplary and selfless service to Kenyans during this\u00a0pandemic.<\/p>\n

Officials expect the president to lift the night\u00a0curfew\u00a0and announce school reopening dates. The president is, however, expected to maintain the mandatory wearing of facemask and keeping social distance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
