\nAfricaPress-Kenya:<\/strong> Tuskys Supermarket employees demonstrated in Nairobi on Wednesday morning to draw attention to their unpaid dues.<\/p>\n

The over 50 employees took to the streets most of them in the chain’s\u00a0\u00a0T-shirts\u00a0waving placards, and blowing whistles while demanding payment of their salaries. Some of the\u00a0ex-employees are owed salary arrears\u00a0of up to five months.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, the\u00a0troubled Tuskys Supermarket axed about 1,000 workers.<\/p>\n

Tuskys Human Resources General Manager Francis Kimani attributed the sackings to \u201congoing business operations realignments,\u201d\u00a0with some employees told they would receive their terminal dues between February and April next year.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlease note you will be paid notice in lieu, any unutilised annual leave days and severance pay. Ensure that you return to the branch manager all company property that you have or for which you were responsible during the course of your employment and get a clearance letter from him\/her,\u201d read one of the\u00a0termination letters\u00a0seen by\u00a0The Standard<\/em>\u00a0and signed by Kimani.<\/p>\n

\u201cArrange to collect your terminal dues from the Human Resources Office on February 13, 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n

The letter was copied to the Ministry of Labour and the Kenya Union of Commercial Food and Allied Workers (Kucfaw).<\/p>\n

The union and Tuskys have been in a long-drawn court battle over the sackings even as the retailer continues to sink deeper into debt.<\/p>\n

Tuskys, which has a store network of 60 across the region, has\u00a0blamed the coronavirus pandemic\u00a0for its woes.<\/p>\n
