Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>In an effort to ease growing tensions within the party, ODM acting party leader Oburu Odinga held a meeting with Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.<\/p>\n

The meeting, which took place on Thursday, comes amid signs of internal friction, with several youthful leaders openly questioning some of the party\u2019s recent decisions and direction.<\/p>\n

Oburu confirmed the meeting, noting that the discussions had focused on fostering party unity and inclusivity. \u201cThis morning, I held an official meeting with Babu Owino. Our discussion centred on strengthening unity and inclusivity within the ODM party,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

He further praised the youthful legislator, stating, \u201cHon. Babu Owino symbolises the vibrant energy and determination of our youth. He has a promising future, and we are together. Strong.\u201d<\/p>\n

The meeting comes as ODM faces internal pressure to reform and reposition itself following the passing of long-time party leader Raila Odinga.<\/p>\n

A faction of younger members has been calling for generational change and greater involvement in party leadership.<\/p>\n

Babu Owino has been positioning himself as one of the youthful politicians likely to shape the next phase of ODM leadership. The Embakasi East MP has, in recent months, intensified his public engagements, signalling his intention to contest the Nairobi governor’s seat.<\/p>\n

However, there have been fears that the party could deny him its ticket, particularly after former ODM leader Raila appeared to lean towards the incumbent Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.<\/p>\n

Speaking during an interview on a local TV station, Oburu dismissed fears that Babu would be denied the party ticket, urging him to remain patient and loyal to the movement.<\/p>\n

He assured that ODM\u2019s nomination process would be transparent and merit-based, adding that \u201cwhoever wins fairly will automatically be awarded the ticket.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even so, what the two discussed during their Thursday meeting remained unknown, with Babu yet to comment on the same.<\/p>\n

Before Raila\u2019s passing, Sakaja had cultivated a close working relationship with the ODM leader and was seen attending some of the party\u2019s key functions.<\/p>\n

In September, Sakaja survived an impeachment attempt by Nairobi MCAs after both President William Ruto and Raila Odinga intervened to calm the situation.<\/p>\n
