The accident resulted in the death of Ruto&#8217;s daughter and injuries to the family. Nassir urged drivers to prioritize road safety, especially during busy travel seasons.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"ap-article-header-tag\"> <strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Kenya. <\/strong> <\/span>Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has said a truck that broke down on the Voi-Taveta highway was involved in the accident that killed KPA managing director Captain William Ruto&#8217;s daughter and injured him and his family.<\/p>\n<p>Nassir noted that the trailer had experienced a mechanical issue, but its driver did not follow safety protocols for such situations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That is a busy road. It was dark. How do you not put on hazards or the safety triangle, or if you don&#8217;t have them, then at least put on twigs for heaven&#8217;s sake,&#8221; Nassir said.<\/p>\n<p>Captain Ruto was travelling to Arusha for the Easter holidays and was to pass by Serengeti National Park.<\/p>\n<p>Nassir said he was among the first to be notified and respond.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I received a call from a mutual friend and immediately talked to Governor Andrew Mwadime, who began sending teams to the scene,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Nassir left Mombasa with ambulances, but by the time they arrived, Captain Ruto and his family had already left for Moi Hospital in Voi.<\/p>\n<p>He extended condolences to the family and the port community and asked for privacy for the grieving family.<\/p>\n<p>He urged drivers to exercise caution and be aware of other road users.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think there were metal rods protruding from the trailer. That is what may have fatally hit the little girl,&#8221; the governor said.<\/p>\n<p>A total of five people were in the Toyota Prado driven by Captain Ruto.<\/p>\n<p>Nassir said the last call the KPA boss made before the accident was to someone who was to guide them after crossing the Tanzanian border.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He was in a lot of distress,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>He also commended the port management for the care they provided to Captain Ruto and his family after the incident.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We ask for privacy for the family as we can only be there to assist them,&#8221; Nassir said.<\/p>\n<p>Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen called on motorists to be cautious while on the road, especially during the festive season when travel increases.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is stable, according to doctors. He has undergone all medical investigations, and the conclusion is that he is stable and out of danger,\u201d the CS said.<\/p>\n<p>He said Captain Ruto will be under observation for 24 hours. He condoled with the family following the loss of their daughter in the accident.<\/p>\n<p>Road safety has been a significant concern in Kenya, particularly on busy highways like the Voi-Taveta route. Accidents often occur due to mechanical failures and negligence in following safety protocols. The government has been urged to implement stricter regulations to enhance road safety and reduce fatalities, especially during peak travel periods like holidays. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by motorists in ensuring safe travel conditions in the region.
