Duale emphasised that the movement should remain a unifying, non-political effort to boost voter registration among young Kenyans.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the 28th graduation ceremony at Khadija Bint Khuwaylid Madrassa in Garissa town, Duale said the Gen Z-led campaign, whose name is Sheng for \u201cWe have the card,\u201d cuts across political, regional and ethnic lines and must not be misused.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want Kenyans to go out and register en masse as voters. It\u2019s about the future and the democracy of our country. This \u2018Tuko Kadi\u2019 initiative belongs to all Kenyans. Nobody should use it for their own political or ethnic advantage,\u201d Duale said.<\/p>\n

Launched in mid-February, the \u201cTuko Kadi\u201d movement has rapidly evolved from a social media trend into a nationwide mobilisation drive, inspiring thousands of young people to acquire national identity cards and register as voters ahead of future elections.<\/p>\n

The campaign\u2019s catchy mantra has resonated widely, encouraging many previously unregistered youth to step forward and participate in the democratic process.<\/p>\n

Duale further pledged to personally follow up on delays in the issuance of national identity cards with Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen and at the National Registration Bureau in Nairobi, noting that access to IDs remains a critical step in enabling voter registration.<\/p>\n

At the same event, the CS issued a stern warning to individuals involved in fraudulent practices within the health sector, stating that the government had significantly tightened oversight under the new Social Health Authority system.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you are used to exploiting the fraud-infested NHIF system, I want to tell you that the new digital system is robust and will detect any irregularities,\u201d Duale said.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cWe have reduced fraud from over 36 percent to about 6 percent, and we will go even lower. Anyone involved, whether a medic, facility owner, or patient, will face the full force of the law.\u201d<\/p>\n

Duale also defended the government\u2019s development record under President William Ruto, citing progress in universal health coverage, affordable housing, education, infrastructure and economic stabilisation.<\/p>\n

Garissa County Commissioner Mohamed Mwabudzo, who was also present, urged residents to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise, noting that participation in elections is a fundamental democratic right.<\/p>\n

The county commissioner disclosed that several ID cards were lying at the Huduma Centre uncollected, calling on residents who had applied to visit the centre and collect their cards.<\/p>\n

Mwabudzo revealed that the county is targeting to register at least 4,000 new voters and raised concern over uncollected national ID cards at the Huduma Centre.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll this development we are witnessing is as a result of voting and electing the right leaders,\u201d he said, adding that the registration exercise in the region was progressing well.<\/p>\n

The Tuko Kadi initiative emerged as a grassroots movement aimed at increasing voter registration among young Kenyans, particularly Gen Z. This campaign reflects a growing awareness of the importance of civic engagement and participation in the democratic process, especially among youth who have historically been underrepresented in elections.
