Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong> <\/span>Gor Mahia defender Paul Ochuoga has called on his teammates to maintain focus and intensity as the FKF Premier League title race enters a decisive phase, with the reigning champions preparing for a congested run of fixtures that could define their pursuit of a record-extending 22nd league crown.<\/p>\n

The 21-year-old right-back, who has emerged as one of the club\u2019s standout performers this season, says consistency and mentality will be crucial as K\u2019Ogalo navigate a tight schedule that includes key matches against Tusker FC, Kakamega Homeboyz, Bandari FC and arch-rivals AFC Leopards.<\/p>\n

Gor Mahia currently sit at the top of the table, but with AFC Leopards and Kakamega Homeboyz close behind, Ochuoga insists there is no room for complacency. \u201cWe are in a strong position, but that means nothing if we do not finish the job,\u201d Ochuoga said.<\/p>\n

The defender, who has contributed both defensively and offensively this season, stressed the importance of unity within the squad as the pressure intensifies. \u201cEvery player must understand the responsibility we carry as Gor Mahia. The title race is tight, and every match now feels like a final,\u201d Ochuoga said.<\/p>\n

He added that the squad must treat each fixture with equal seriousness, regardless of the opponent or stage of the season. \u201cWe cannot afford to pick and choose games. It is about consistency from now until the end,\u201d Ochuoga said.<\/p>\n

Amid his impressive domestic form, Ochuoga\u2019s rising profile has also attracted growing interest from European football circles, with reports linking him to top ownership groups such as City Football Group and Chelsea\u2019s BlueCo, a development that underlines his rapid progression and places him among Kenya\u2019s most promising export prospects.<\/p>\n

Despite the speculation, the young defender remains grounded, focusing on his current responsibilities while acknowledging the opportunity such interest represents for his career.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now my focus is on Gor Mahia and helping the team win the title,\u201d Ochuoga said. The prospect of testing himself at a higher level appears to motivate rather than distract him, as he continues to build consistency in his performances.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course, every player dreams of playing in Europe, but it must come at the right time and in the right way,\u201d Ochuoga said. Gor Mahia\u2019s immediate focus, however, is a rescheduled fixture against Tusker FC at Kasarani Stadium, a match widely seen as pivotal in shaping the direction of the title race.<\/p>\n

Ochuoga warned that Tusker\u2019s experience and physical approach make them dangerous opponents in high-pressure encounters. \u201cTusker are always a tough side. They are organised, physical and very experienced in big matches,\u201d Ochuoga said.<\/p>\n

He further emphasised the need for defensive discipline as Gor Mahia aim to maintain their strong record in recent matches. \u201cAs defenders, we know small mistakes can change everything. We must stay alert for the full 90 minutes,\u201d Ochuoga said.<\/p>\n

The young full-back also reflected on his personal development this season, highlighting his growing confidence in the squad\u2019s system under head coach Charles Akonnor. \u201cI am learning every day in this team. Playing for Gor Mahia demands maturity, focus and discipline,\u201d Ochuoga said.<\/p>\n

Ochuoga noted that the technical bench has played a key role in maintaining standards during a demanding campaign. \u201cTraining intensity has been high, and the coaches push us to stay sharp mentally and physically,\u201d Ochuoga said.<\/p>\n

He also stressed that the team\u2019s ambition goes beyond domestic dominance, pointing to the importance of building a winning mentality across all competitions.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this club, the expectation is always to win. We cannot hide from that,\u201d Ochuoga said. Head coach Charles Akonnor, meanwhile, has maintained that the title race will be decided by consistency and mental strength rather than reputation or past success.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are not focused on what others are doing. Our focus is on our own performances,\u201d Akonnor said. The Ghanaian tactician insisted that Gor Mahia must remain disciplined in their approach as the season reaches its final stretch.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to stay disciplined in every match. There are no easy games at this stage,\u201d Akonnor said. Akonnor further highlighted the importance of squad depth and rotation as fixtures continue to pile up. \u201cWe need everyone ready. This is a long season, and every player will have a role,\u201d Akonnor said.<\/p>\n

He also praised Ochuoga\u2019s development, noting the defender\u2019s growing influence within the team. \u201cHe is improving in every game. His attitude in training and matches has been very good,\u201d Akonnor said.<\/p>\n

As Gor Mahia prepare for the crucial run-in, Ochuoga believes the squad must embrace pressure rather than fear it. \u201cThis is the moment we play for as footballers. Pressure is part of the job,\u201d Ochuoga said. He urged teammates to remain united and focused on the shared objective of lifting the league title.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must stay together as a team. That unity is what will carry us through,\u201d Ochuoga said. With the title race finely balanced, Ochuoga believes the coming weeks will test character as much as quality.<\/p>\n
