AfricaPress-Kenya:<\/strong> Kenya has recorded 685 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours bringing the total number of cases to 44,881.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the daily update on the Covid-19 situation in the country, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe (pictured) on Sunday the new cases are from 4,912 bringing the total number of samples tested so far to 621,976.<\/p>\n

From the cases, 635 are Kenyans and 50 are foreigners while 456 are male and 229 female<\/p>\n

On gender distribution, 456 are male while 229 are females with the youngest case being a one-year-old and the oldest patient is 99<\/p>\n

On a positive note, 105 people recovered from the disease with 73 from home-based care programme while 32 from various hospitals bringing the total number of recoveries to 31,857.<\/p>\n

On a sad note, seven people have succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours bringing the total to 832.<\/p>\n

Kagwe has urged Kenyans to adhere to the ministry\u2019s containment measures such as wearing of face masks, frequently wash their hands and maintain social distance.<\/p>\n

“Let us not go back to the normal behaviour because if we do, it will hurt us,” he said.<\/p>\n

The spike in Covid-19 cases in the country, according to Kagwe was brought about by the relaxing of Covid-19 containment measures coupled with the lack of failure to observe the virus containment measures.<\/p>\n

“I can tell you we are headed for the second wave and Kenyans must not think we are free,” he said.<\/p>\n

Kagwe revealed that in the last 24 hours 54 per cent of all Covid-19 cases are in age group 20-39 with the majority of Covid-19 deaths are above the age of 58.<\/p>\n

Earlier today, The National Emergency Response Committee held a crisis meeting in a bid to come up with a new raft of measures in the wake of rising Covid-19 infections.<\/p>\n

The meeting comes amid fears Kenya might be headed into a second wave infection as seen in the statistics in the past few weeks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
