Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong> <\/span>The Linda Mwananchi brigade on Sunday received a rousing welcome in Kisumu as they made their way through the lakeside city ahead of a planned rally at K’Owuor Grounds in Kibos.<\/p>\n

Accompanied by a convoy of supporters, the leaders moved through various parts of the city, attracting crowds of residents who lined the streets. Security presence was visible across Kisumu, with patrol vehicles seen moving around, monitoring the situation.<\/p>\n

The team began their engagements at Triumphant Christian Church in Nyaori, Nyalenda, where they joined congregants for a church service. After the sermon, the leaders addressed worshippers, emphasizing peace and unity.<\/p>\n

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino told the congregation that their visit was not confrontational.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey cannot come here and try to intimidate us in our own home. This is our home. When you come to your home, you don\u2019t come with chaos; you come in peace and with love to greet your people and parents.\u201d<\/p>\n

There is no need to fight our own children here. Leaders who are paying people to cause violence among our youth should stop,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Owino added that the group would not be deterred, calling out those allegedly positioned to disrupt the event. \u201cToday, we have come in peace. Those goons stationed at Kachok should leave. We are many. We don\u2019t have any problems with anybody,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, in a brief but emotional address, attributed his return to faith.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have returned here because of God. I thank God for giving me life,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna thanked Kisumu residents for their turnout, saying the visit was also meant to appreciate the region.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have come to Kisumu to say thank you. There are those spreading fear, but we are telling wananchi we are coming in peace,\u201d Sifuna said.<\/p>\n

Abandon your schemes; this movement is an unstoppable force. The voice of the people is the voice of God,\u201d Orengo said, urging supporters to turn up in large numbers at the rally venue.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the morning, a video circulating online showed youths believed to be supporters of the Linda Mwananchi movement already gathered at K’Owuor Grounds, assuring that the rally would proceed as planned without disruption.<\/p>\n

Tension had started building as early as Saturday, when a group of youths moved through the streets chanting slogans and carrying placards ahead of the Sunday event. There was also a brief moment of unease on Sunday morning around the Kachok area, though the situation was later contained.<\/p>\n

After the church service, the convoy proceeded to the rally venue, with supporters continuing to trail the leaders through the city streets as the highly anticipated meeting got underway. By the time of going to press, the crowd was moving with the convoy towards K’Owuor Grounds in Kibos.<\/p>\n

Kisumu has a history of political tension, often heightened during election periods. The Linda Mwananchi movement, which seeks to unify and engage citizens, has emerged as a significant force in local politics. Their recent rally aimed to foster peace and counteract fears of violence, reflecting ongoing efforts to stabilize the region amidst political challenges.
