President William Ruto has spoken for the first time on the demise of Rachel Wandeto, the gospel singer who was lost her life after suffering a petrol attack.<\/p>\n
The president issued a statement shortly after news of Wandeto’s death, vowing that his government would take action against the perpetrators.<\/p>\n
While mourning the deceased, the president reiterated that firm action would be taken against those responsible regardless of their political affiliation.<\/p>\n
“May God grant the family and friends comfort, peace, and courage to bear with the loss of Ms Rachel Wandetto,” Ruto said in a statement.<\/p>\n
The president added, “The criminals that attacked this hardworking and promising lady will be held to account, irrespective of their affiliation.”<\/p>\n
Wandeto lost her life barely 72 hours after she was doused in petrol and torched by assailants who are yet to be made public.<\/p>\n
In the days that followed, the singer’s colleagues revealed that she suffered 70 per cent burns in her body, and was in urgent need of blood donation.<\/p>\n
On Sunday, hours before her death, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen paid her a visit and assured members of the public that authorities were in pursuit of Wandeto’s assailants.<\/p>\n
Wandeto gained online recognition for her vocal political stance and was a firm supporter of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).<\/p>\n
CS Murkomen was also very open about Wandeto’s political allegiance, stating that if the speculations around the possibility of a political motive by basically attacking her for her political beliefs, then it could pose a danger to the whole nation at large.<\/p>\n
Security bosses such as the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, confirmed that investigations had already commenced, further ordering the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to move with speed to establish what transpired and the motive behind the attack.<\/p>\n
