In a scene reflecting the widening public anger, Kenyan police used tear gas on Tuesday to disperse protesters in Nanyuki, as hundreds rallied against the continued construction of the American quarantine center, despite court orders temporarily suspending the project pending the resolution of legal challenges.<\/p>\n

Kenyan concerns extend beyond mere objections to the facility’s location or procedural aspects, as many view the project as a new test of Nairobi’s relationship with Washington, raising questions about whether Kenya is becoming a health containment zone for risks that the United States refuses to accept on its own soil.<\/p>\n

In contrast, Kenyan President William Ruto defends the project as part of a long-standing partnership with the United States.
