Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Gatundu South MP Moses kuria on Tuesday, December 22, dismissed claims that he was vying for the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat following Mike Mbuvi Sonko’s ouster.<\/p>\n

Reports had earlier indicated that Kuria intended to run for the seat on a People’s Empowerment Party ticket.<\/p>\n

The MP stated that a previous interview had been taken out of context, adding the he had no intention of running for the seat. The talks were fuelled after campaign posters bearing Kuria’s image and message to the people of Nairobi went viral.<\/p>\n

A number of names have been floated for the handshake candidate, from former Presidential candidate Peter Kenneth, former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, Head of Presidential Delivery Unit Nzioka Waita to Dennis Waweru (former Dagoretti South MP and Building Bridges Initiative taskforce member).<\/p>\n

Former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru on Monday, December 21, confirmed that she will throw her hat in the race and is looking to have the DP to support her for the seat.<\/p>\n

“I work with Ruto, so I will vie with the Hustler Nation team. We work with what wananchi say. The people have decided it’s me and it is up to them to decide the ticket I will use,” Wanjiru said.<\/p>\n

Exiled lawyer, Miguna Miguna, and politician Agnes Gakure have also declared interests in the seat.<\/p>\n

Kuria’s announcement came just a day after Nairobi Speaker Benson Mutura was sworn in as the interim Governor for the next 60 days.<\/p>\n

Mutura assured Kenyans that he was ready to commit to his work in serving the people of Nairobi.<\/p>\n

“You have elected me to various positions in the city, and I have never failed you. This will not be the first time,” he said.<\/p>\n

He has since signed budget warrants paving way for release of Sh37.5bn budget that was on hold since October.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
