{"id":19778,"date":"2020-12-27T20:29:10","date_gmt":"2020-12-27T20:29:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/kenya\/?p=19778"},"modified":"2020-12-27T19:28:26","modified_gmt":"2020-12-27T19:28:26","slug":"kdf-sergeant-beaten-to-death-in-estate-fight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/all-news\/kdf-sergeant-beaten-to-death-in-estate-fight","title":{"rendered":"KDF Sergeant Beaten to Death in Estate Fight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/kenya\">Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) sergeant lost his life after he was clobbered to death by an angry mob.<\/p>\n<p>The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on the night of December 26 revealed that the 38 year old soldier was headed home alongside his brother after a night out partying at a hotel in Utawala.<\/p>\n<p>The KDF sergeant is said to have gotten into a confrontation with members of the public who were also enjoying the festive season on their night out.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Along the way, they came across a couple on a rendezvous and the deceased greeted the lady much to the disgust of her fianc\u00e9. An argument ensued culminating to a stone throwing match pitting the couple on one side and the Sergeant leading the charge on the other,&#8221; the DCI said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The soldier and his brother overpowered the couple, who then called for help, telling members of the public that they were being attacked by robbers.<\/p>\n<p>A mob of six people emerged, coming to the couple&#8217;s rescue. They clobbered the officer to death while his brother escaped by a whisker.<\/p>\n<p>Detectives have since arrested five suspects in connection with the murder. The DCI stated that they will be arraigned on Monday, December 28, to answer to the charges pressed against them.<\/p>\n<p>The incident proceeds a near similar incident where two police officers were rushed to hospital after they were attacked by a Form Three student.<\/p>\n<p>The incident which occurred on December 25 pitted the 19 year old student Sheril Awino, a student at Rambula Mixed Secondary School and the two officers, one of them, her boyfriend.<\/p>\n<p>Police reports indicated that Awino attacked the officer, Denis Mugo, with a broken glass after the two had been in a fight at his house.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The suspect picked a broken piece of glass from a broken glassed table and attacked the victim by cutting him on his head and on the left upper arm,\u201d the police report reads in part.<\/p>\n<p>The second officer was injured when he rushed to help his colleague.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The victim screamed for help while bleeding heavily from the deep cuts and on the process cpl Solomon Kipchumba rushed to the house of the victim to help him but he was also attacked by the same accused person by cutting him with the same piece of glass on his left lower lip,\u201d the statement read in part.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Kenya.
