Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Kenya has recorded 64 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours as the country’s total caseload rise to 96,678.<\/p>\n

Currently, there are 657 patients admitted in various health facilities countrywide and 2,989 on Home Based Isolation and Care.<\/p>\n

In a statement on Saturday, January 2, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced that 1,852 samples had been tested over the period bringing the total number of samples tested so far to 1,052,836.<\/p>\n

Of the positive cases,35 are male and 29 are female while the youngest is a six-year-old child. The oldest is 81.<\/p>\n

Today, 55 patients have recovered from the disease, 41 being from the Home-Based Care Program, while 14 have been discharged from various hospitals. The total recoveries now stand at 79,012.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, 4 patients have succumbed to the disease bringing the cumulative fatalities to 1,685.<\/p>\n

29 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 14 of whom are on ventilatory support, and 12 on supplemental oxygen. 3 are on observation.<\/p>\n

Another 19 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen and 19 others are in the general wards.<\/p>\n

None is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).<\/p>\n

Distribution of the cases by Counties is as follows; Nairobi 34, Kisii 5, Laikipia 5, Meru 3, Machakos 3, Mombasa 2, Busia 2, Taita Taveta 2, Kiambu 1, Embu 1, Kajiado 1, Kilifi 1, Nakuru 1, Nyandarua 1, Siaya 1 and Uasin Gishu 1.<\/p>\n

In terms of Sub County Distribution; In Nairobi, the 34 cases are from Lang’ata 7, Dagoretti North, Embakasi Central, Kibra and Starehe 3 cases each, Embakasi West, Kamukunji and Kasarani 2 cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi East, Embakasi North, Embakasi South, Makadara, Mathare, Roysambu, Ruaraka and Westlands 1 case each.<\/p>\n

Initially, the Ministry of Health had indicated a possible second wave due to the rise of the Covid-19 infection curve. At its peak, 1,000 new cases were being reported in a single day with the mortality rate also rising.<\/p>\n

In November, the positivity rate had risen to 19 percent, an all-time high since the onset of the virus in March.<\/p>\n

However, recent data from the Ministry has noted a drop in the number of cases reported. In December, the positivity rate dropped to just over 3 percent.<\/p>\n

For instance, in the past one week, the Covid-19 infections curve has flattened. This has led to CS Kagwe noting that the virus could be contained without putting in place tougher measures.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
