Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The Kenya Railways Corporation has introduced a Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) midnight train service from Nairobi to Mombasa and vice versa.<\/p>\n

In a statement released on Sunday, January 3, the corporation revealed that the introduction of the service has been necessitated by an increase in demand due to school reopening.<\/p>\n

“Following today’s Multi-Agency briefing on Re-opening of Schools, we will provide an additional Inter-county train in the evening between Mombasa and Nairobi,” read the statement.<\/p>\n

The train will leave the Nairobi Terminus at 9 p.m and make the first stop in the Athi River station at 9:19 p.m, spending three minutes on the station.<\/p>\n

The Mombasa bound train will then proceed to Emali at 10:27 p.m and leave the station three minutes later before getting to Kibwezi at 11:14 p.m.<\/p>\n

The train will leave the Kibwezi station at 11:18 p.m and stop at the Mtito Andei Station at 11:50 p.m, leaving the station after a three-minute stop.<\/p>\n

The SGR will then stop at the Voi station at 1:02 a.m and leave the station after a six-minute stop and make another stop at Miaseny at 1:41 a.m.<\/p>\n

After a two minutes stop the train will then depart Miaseny where it will make the final stop at Mariakani at 2:27 p.m then arrive in Mombasa at 3 a.m.<\/p>\n

Another intercounty train will depart Mombasa at 9 p.m, arriving in Nairobi at 3:10 a.m and will run concurrently with the one leaving Nairobi at the same time.<\/p>\n

The Madaraka Express will now have three train services on the Nairobi-Mombasa route and a similar number for the Mombasa-Nairobi route.<\/p>\n

It was not immediately clear how the passengers will commute from the Nairobi and Mombasa Termini with the curfew ending at 4 a.m.<\/p>\n

The passengers are however likely to be exempted from curfew as is the case with air passengers arriving during the 10 p.m to 4 a.m curfew.<\/p>\n

Air passengers whose flights fall during curfew hours are required to show their tickets in order to be exempted from the night curfew.<\/p>\n

Road transport is still however restricted by the night curfew, a situation that has led to an increase in demand for travel.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
