Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Two Royal Media Services (RMS) staffers were roughed up by touts who ganged up against them after they complained of the vehicle carrying excess passengers.<\/p>\n

Alice Sanya and Mercy Kiplamai boarded a matatu from Prestige Mall to Ngong Resource on Monday evening January 4.<\/p>\n

“We sat two people each as required but after getting to Adams the conductor insisted on carrying three passengers each.<\/p>\n

“I and my colleague disagreed with the conductor. He refunded my colleague’s fare and then asked us to alight,” explained Sanya.<\/p>\n

The RMS staff added that she had not yet paid her fare and was asked not to pay as she was ordered to alight from the vehicle with her luggage thrown out.<\/p>\n

The driver joined the tout in confronting the two women as they went ahead to beat Sanya when she tried taking a photo of the matatu’s number plate.<\/p>\n

“They twisted my arm and smashed my phone insisting that I cannot take a photo of the number plate, luckily my colleague took a video of them insulting me,” she added.<\/p>\n

The matter has since been reported to the Kilimani Police Station with the two asking officers to hasten the investigation process with more passengers falling victim to rogue matatu operators.<\/p>\n

The story has drawn reactions from the public as some questioned why the other passengers in the matatu failed to intervene to stop the scuffle.<\/p>\n

“Where were the other commuters when these ones were being harassed… society has already accepted this nonsense… that why they will keep on celebrating rigged votes and incompetent leaders,” noted Caspal Wendo.<\/p>\n

Members of the public asked the National Transport and Safety Authority Act (NTSA) to act on the incident and revoke the license of the matatu.<\/p>\n
