AfricaPress-Kenya:<\/strong> The newly appointed Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo had appointed\u00a0James Gesami\u00a0as his\u00a0deputy but the latter was rejected by 21 MCAs. Only 15 voted to support his nomination.<\/p>\n

The MCAs upheld a report by the Appointment Committee which had raised concerns that Gesami was not fit for office.<\/p>\n

“The County Assembly of Nyamira vetted and rejected the nomination of Dr James Ondicho Gesami to the position of Deputy Governor of the County Government of Nyamira by a resolution passed by the Honourable House held on Tuesday, January 19, 2021,” read the verdict signed by speaker Moffat Teya.<\/p>\n

It was claimed that the nominee was in possession of questionable documents including the\u00a0CRB Clearance certificate and\u00a0Certificate of good conduct.<\/p>\n

The verdict was arrived at after\u00a0the MCAs fell out\u00a0over the mode in which they were to vote for the motion.<\/p>\n

The MCAs from both sides that opposed and supported the nomination had stood their ground regarding a decision on whether to amend the report from the Appointing Committee.<\/p>\n

His supporters claimed that Gesami was not given a time window to present documents that took time to process.<\/p>\n

Those who opposed his nomination, on the other hand, maintained that he had not presented some crucial documents before the assembly.<\/p>\n

Some of the documents included\u00a0clearance certificates from the Higher Education Loans Board, the National Police Service, and the Credit Reference Bureau.<\/p>\n

Nyamaiya MCA Raban Masira, who was a supporter, asked the speaker why the committee declined the documents when he presented them on Monday, January 18.<\/p>\n

Others argued that he was not given a fair hearing by the assembly.<\/p>\n
