{"id":21399,"date":"2021-01-24T20:23:43","date_gmt":"2021-01-24T20:23:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/?p=21399"},"modified":"2021-01-24T20:23:43","modified_gmt":"2021-01-24T20:23:43","slug":"eacc-releases-report-on-rutos-hustler-jet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/policy\/eacc-releases-report-on-rutos-hustler-jet","title":{"rendered":"EACC Releases Report on Ruto&#8217;s Hustler Jet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>AfricaPress-Kenya:<\/strong> The Office of the Deputy President had been accused of flouting procurement rules in the hiring of a private jet for DP William Ruto.<\/p>\n<p>Seven years later, the EACC has cleared Ruto and his office and also disclosed that the amount that was under investigation was Ksh 18.6 million only.<\/p>\n<p>DP Ruto had used the jet\u00a0to tour Africa and campaign against the International Criminal Court (ICC) cases against him and President Uhuru Kenyatta.<\/p>\n<article data-align=\"center\">\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kenyans.co.ke\/files\/styles\/article_inner_mobile\/public\/images\/media\/President%20Uhuru%20Kenyatta%20alighting%20from%20a%20plane..jpg?itok=IXvl04_8\" alt=\"President Uhuru Kenyatta alighting from a plane.\" width=\"460\" height=\"360\" \/><\/div>\n<div>President Uhuru Kenyatta alighting from a plane.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/article>\n<p>The trips to Algeria, Nigeria, Gabon, Ghana and the Democratic Republic of Congo aboard a Bombardier 850 Challenger was estimated to have cost\u00a0Ksh 100 million taxpayers money.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Investigations revealed that no staff of the Office of the Deputy President (ODP) personally benefitted from the award of the tender to E-ADC Limited.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was no loss of public funds as the DP&#8217;s trip had been\u00a0sanctioned by the President,&#8221; EACC said in a Gazette Notice published on Friday, January 22.<\/p>\n<p>However, EACC acknowledged that some procurement laws were breached. Nonetheless, it said that this was occasioned by the urgency of the trip.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was practically impossible for the procurement to have met all the requirements of the Public Procurement and Disposal Act, 2005, within the time the travel was scheduled,&#8221; the report reads.<\/p>\n<p>The commission also indicated that it wrote to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP)under Noordin Haji, recommending that the inquiry should be closed and no further investigations on the matter should commence.<\/p>\n<p>The trip was widely publicised with opposition leaders criticising the government for wasting government resources.<\/p>\n<article data-align=\"center\">\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kenyans.co.ke\/files\/styles\/article_inner_mobile\/public\/images\/media\/wabukala.jpg?itok=XE5Oj5mr\" alt=\"a\" width=\"470\" height=\"314\" \/><\/div>\n<div>Bishop Eliud Wabukala, Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) Chairman<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/article>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AfricaPress-Kenya: The Office of the Deputy President had been accused of flouting procurement rules in the hiring of a private jet for DP William Ruto.
