AfricaPress-Kenya:<\/strong> Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has appointed committees for the\u00a0Tokyo\u00a0Olympic and Paralympic\u00a0Games.<\/p>\n

In a\u00a0Kenya\u00a0Gazette notice,\u00a0Amina\u00a0issued several terms and references for the steering and central management\u00a0committees\u00a0in what sets the stage for an intense preparation ahead of the\u00a0Games\u00a0that begin on July 23.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe steering\u00a0committee\u00a0shall oversee preparations of the Olympic and Paralympic\u00a0Games\u00a0in\u00a0Tokyo, Japan 2021 as well as review work plans, budgets and any other relevant proposals from the Central Management\u00a0Committee,” the gazette notice read.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey will also review the final list of athletes that are to participate in the Olympic and Paralympic\u00a0Games\u00a0and provide financial oversight.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the terms of reference for the Central Management\u00a0Committee,\u00a0Amina\u00a0said: \u201cIt shall carry out the daily activities in preparation and execution of the Olympic and Paralympic\u00a0Games\u00a0and prepare work plans, budget,\u00a0team\u00a0lists and any other proposals for consideration by the Steering\u00a0Committee\u00a0and also perform any other duties as assigned by the Steering\u00a0Committee.\u201d<\/p>\n

The steering\u00a0committee\u00a0comprises the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage as its chair; Chief Administrative Secretary, Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage as vice chairperson and Principal Secretary, State Department of Sports as a member.<\/p>\n

Other members include Principal Secretary, State Department of Culture and Heritage, Principal Secretary, State Department of Information and Communication Technology and Youth, Principal Secretary State Department for Trade, Principal Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Principal Secretary Ministry of Health, Principal Secretary National Treasury and Principal Secretary Ministry of Interior and Co-ordination of National Government.<\/p>\n

Secretary for Administration, State Department of Sports Josephine Onunga is the secretary, while Walter Juma Ongeti will be the deputy secretary. Andrew Wakahiu is a member.<\/p>\n

National Olympic\u00a0Committee\u00a0of\u00a0Kenya\u00a0(NOC) president Paul Tergat, Chef de Mission Waithaka Kioni,\u00a0Kenya\u00a0National Sports Council chairman Nderitu Gikaria and NOC secretary general Francis Mutuku are members.<\/p>\n

Other members include NOC treasurer Anthony Kariuki, Humphrey Khayange (NOC athletes\u2019 representative), Agnes Oluoch (President Paralympics\u00a0Committee), Elijah Mwandhi (secretary general of Paralympic\u00a0Committee), Dennis Muga (Chef de Mission, Paralympic\u00a0Committee), Alex Isaboke (representative of Sports Journalist Association of\u00a0Kenya) and Japhter Rugut (CEO Anti-Doping Agency of\u00a0Kenya).<\/p>\n

Sports editors Mike Okinyi, Elias Makori and Robin Toskin are media liaison members for the\u00a0Tokyo\u00a0Olympic and Paralympic\u00a0Games. Acting Commissioner for Sports Gerald J Gitonga and Athletics\u00a0Kenya\u00a0president Jackson Tuwei are also in the mix.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
