AfricaPress-Kenya:<\/strong> High Court judge, Weldon Korir, on Friday, March 19 issued an order temporarily stopping cases against former Nairobi Governor, Mike Mbuvi Sonko.<\/p>\n

The cases halted were before Kamiti and Kiambu Law Courts.<\/p>\n

Judge Korir ruled that Sonko had established that his arrest by the Director of Public Prosecutions(DPP) and Inspector General of police did not accord him the constitutional requirements and thereby issued\u00a0the temporary orders.<\/p>\n

Korir also noted that there was no rebuttal to the applicant\u2019s deposition in\u00a0the way he was arrested and prosecuted as a result of statements he made in a public rally.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the applicant\u2019s pleadings I sense a threat to the right to freedom of conscience, religion, belief and opinion,\u201d the ruling read.<\/p>\n

Sonko had moved to court\u00a0challenging his arrest and prosecution.<\/p>\n

The former governor argued that the police officers and the DPP by arresting and prosecuting him had abused their offices which was an infringement of his human rights.<\/p>\n

The former governor was released on March 5 where he was charged with terror-related\u00a0charges, among other charges including\u00a0financing terror activities and recruiting individuals who had a motive to take part in terror attacks.\u00a0He was released on a cash bail of Ksh500,000.<\/p>\n

Speaking after securing his release, Sonko expressed his gratitude to the\u00a0Kenyans who had been praying for him during the period.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
