AfricaPress-Kenya:<\/strong> President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday, March 26 reintroduced travel restrictions\u00a0this time targetting five counties –\u00a0Nairobi, Nakuru, Kiambu, Machakos, and Kajiado.<\/p>\n

In his address, the head of state noted that the counties recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases and collectively declared them a\u00a0disease-infected area<\/strong>\u00a0and thereby instituting\u00a0cessation of movement\u00a0in and out of the area.<\/p>\n

From his directive, it\u00a0was not immediately clear whether residents in the\u00a0one zoned area<\/strong>\u00a0could move across borders, say a Nairobian travelling to Nakuru via Kiambu.<\/p>\n

State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita took to clarify the government’s directive explaining that residents of the five counties could freely across county borders\u00a0within the area.<\/p>\n

He, however, stated that a resident in the counties could not move outside the area to other counties.<\/p>\n

“Kindly note that the cessation of movement is in and out of the 5 counties (Nairobi, Nakuru, Kiambu, Machakos, and Kajiado) as\u00a0One Zoned Area.<\/em><\/p>\n

“You can therefore move freely within the five counties. You will not however be able to leave and enter the One Zoned Area,” he stated.<\/p>\n

A Nairobi resident can access Thika Town in Kiambu county or even travel to Athi River\u00a0 in Machakos County as long as they are within the one zone area.<\/p>\n

Similarly, a Rongai resident in Kajiado county can access Nairobi CBD within the restrictions, the same for a Syokimau resident.<\/p>\n

Uhuru, during his address, stated that\u00a070% of Kenya\u2019s reported cases of Covid-19 emanated from the five counties.<\/p>\n

He\u00a0revised the curfew hours for the five counties directing that the curfew commences at 8 p.m. and end at 4 a.m.<\/p>\n

For the rest of the country,\u00a0the curfew hours were maintained between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.<\/p>\n

Operations of bars were suspended\u00a0in the counties of Nairobi, Machakos, Kajiado, Kiambu and Nakuru with the sale of alcohol in restaurants and eateries\u00a0prohibited.<\/p>\n

“All restaurants and eateries in the Counties of Nairobi, Machakos, Kajiado, Kiambu, and Nakuru shall provide takeaway services only,” Uhuru ordered.<\/p>\n

He also\u00a0ordered for all public gatherings, in-person meetings\u00a0as well as congregational worship to be\u00a0suspended within the counties\u00a0until further notice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
