{"id":2487,"date":"2020-02-13T14:22:11","date_gmt":"2020-02-13T14:22:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/kenya\/?p=2487"},"modified":"2020-02-13T14:22:31","modified_gmt":"2020-02-13T14:22:31","slug":"former-sports-cs-rashid-echesa-arrested","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/community\/former-sports-cs-rashid-echesa-arrested","title":{"rendered":"Former Sports CS Rashid Echesa arrested"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested the former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa.<\/p>\n<p>Sources aware of the arrest say the former CS is being held over suspected fraudulent dealings.Echesa is being interrogated by officers at\u00a0the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road.His vehicles were also impounded during the Thursday arrest.<\/p>\n<p>Echesa was fired by President Uhuru Kenyatta from the sports docket in March 2019.This is his second arrest in nine months.Echesa was arrested alongside other politicians Cleophas Malala (Kakamega Senator) and Libinus Oduor (Mayoni MCA) and questioned by police on the activities of criminal gangs in Matungu.<\/p>\n<p>More than 10 people had died in one month in Matungu, Kakamega County.He was released later after police failed to connect him to the crimes.The former CS sued Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji, DCI George Kinoti, Attorney-General Kihara Kariuki and Inspector-General of Police Hilary Mutyambai over the arrest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested the former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa.
