CAfricaPress-Kenya:<\/strong> elebrated American rapper and business mogul Shawn Carter, popularly known by his stage name Jay Z, has used his stardom to promote Kenya’s tourism industry by donning a T-shirt promoting the magical island of Lamu.<\/p>\n

Jay Z was spotted wearing the Kenyan-inspired design while\u00a0leaving a California restaurant on Tuesday, March 31st.<\/p>\n

The Lamu Riyadha Mosque T-shirt designed by Kenyan designer\u00a0Zedekiah Lukoye\u00a0celebrates the Kenyan island that recently\u00a0played host to Oscar Award-winning actress Lupita\u00a0Nyong’o.<\/p>\n

With hundreds of millions of fans around the world, what Jay Z wears carried a lot of brand value and the Kenyan wear was a major win not just for the designer but also for Lamu and Kenya in general.<\/p>\n

Lamu has been declared\u00a0a world heritage\u00a0site by the\u00a0United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco). It is a favorite spot for the well-to-do, both in Kenya and in the world.<\/p>\n

In February, the island received free publicity after, Kasim Khan and Sulaiman Isa Khan, the sons of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, were covered by Pakistan press holidaying in the sandy island.<\/p>\n

The Lamu Riyadha Tshirt\u00a0pays homage to Habib Salih a highly respected Sharif and religious teacher who settled in Lamu in the1880s.<\/p>\n

There he built the Riyadha mosque and introduced Habshi Maulidi- a singing of religious passages honoring the Prophet Mohammed.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the\u00a0media<\/em>\u00a0in 2017, Lukoye revealed that he started selling\u00a0second-hand clothes\u00a0when he was class six.<\/p>\n

\u201cGrowing up, there was a flea market right outside my school that I\u2019d pass every day. Sometimes I stopped by different stalls. My mother had many friends who sold second-hand clothes, and it occurred to me that I could also make money selling clothes to my fellow students,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

The Kenyan fashion guru is the founder and CEO of a luxury brand identified as Narok NYC that deals in high-end suits. He also founded blkburd genes based in Los Angeles, California.<\/p>\n

The brand defines itself as a movement-advocating proven experience for the\u00a0design of a greater future.<\/p>\n

This is not his first rodeo, the designer has worked with other A-List celebrities; namely Lupita Nyongo\u2019s younger brother Peter Junior Nyongo, actor Dion Saap, violinist Damian Escobar, Sportpesa CEO Ronald Karauri, artist Bradley Theodore and Rohan Marley.<\/p>\n
