AfricaPress-Kenya:<\/strong> 1851 individuals have tested positive for Covid-19, out of a sample size of 9,676 tested in the last 24 hours with a positivity rate of 19.1% up from 18.5%\u00a0reported on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Friday, April 2, announced that 19 deaths had been reported in the past 24 hours bringing the cumulative deaths to 2,186.<\/p>\n

The total number of confirmed positive Covid-19 cases now stands at 136,893.<\/p>\n

From the cases, 1,767 are Kenyans, 84 are foreigners while 991 are male and 860 are female. The youngest is a 7- year-old infant while the oldest has 99 years.<\/p>\n

1,597 patients are currently admitted to various facilities countrywide. 4,943 are on home-based isolation and care.\u00a0185 are in ICU, 43 are on ventilatory support while 106 on supplemental oxygen, 36 patients are on observation.<\/p>\n

Nairobi continues to lead with 796 cases,Kiambu 151,Mombasa 106,Uasin Gishu 83,Nakuru 79 , Machakos 52, Nyandarua 44, Kisumu 38 , Kilifi 37,Kitui 36 , Meru 35 , Kericho 34 , Kajiado 33 , Bungoma 32 , Trans Nzoia 25 ,Embu 22 cases.<\/p>\n

Kakamega has 19 cases, Murang’a 17 , Kirinyaga 14 , Mandera 14 , Makueni 13 , West Pokot 11 , Siaya 11 , Nandi 10 , Busia 9 , Laikipia 7, Isiolo 6 , Kisii 6 , Bomet 6 , Kwale 5 , Baringo 4 , Migori 4 , Taita Taveta 4 , Garissa 3 , Turkana 3 , Nyeri 3 , Marsabit 2 , with Samburu , Tharaka Nithi , Narok and Elgeyo Marakwet 1 case each.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the address, Dr Patrick Amoth maintained that national health security takes precedence over business. He also highlighted\u00a0that oxygen demand is still rising given its vitality in the management of severe covid-19.<\/p>\n

“As the numbers rise, demand for oxygen will rise. But counties have ramped up their capacity to be able to provide piped and portable oxygen either through cylinders or oxygen concentrators,” added Amoth.<\/p>\n

He however expressed optimism in the decrease of positive cases citing and improvement since the containment measures were put in place.<\/p>\n

Kagwe maintained that their priority is to secure lives and\u00a0banned\u00a0vaccine importation by private entities.\u00a0\u201cThere will be no licensing of private players in the importation of vaccines. Any such license given will be and is hereby terminated.
